The following checklist outlines what to bring with you, or prepare to purchase once you arrive, so you have a basic set-up for life at the residence:
Bedding
Idlewood Inn provides you with sheets, blankets, and pillows for your bed. However, if you prefer to use your own set, you may bring or purchase your own bedding. Note that the double beds at the residence rooms require “double” sized bed sheets.
Towels and Toiletries
Bring towels and personal toiletries for your washroom. Additional towels, toiletries and toilet paper can be purchased from Front Desk or from several locations nearby the residence.
Clothing and Outerwear
Weather in Toronto is typically four true seasons. Spring and Summer are warm and sunny, however Fall (Autumn) and Winter temperatures often go below freezing. It can rain and snow frequently in the Fall and Winter months between October and April. Be sure to carry an umbrella with you, and purchase some water repellent outerwear and shoes (rubber or snow boots are highly recommended!). In Spring and Fall (Autumn), light sweaters and jackets help with chilly evenings. You may want to bring a few clothe hangers with you, however these can always be purchased from local stores.
Pots, Pans, Dishes and Cutlery
Please purchase or bring your own set of pots, pans, dishes, glasses, mugs, containers and cutlery for your personal use.
Small Appliances
The residence’s Common Kitchen is stocked with a stove, fridges and freezers, and cookware, but many residents choose to purchase their own small fridges, alarms, microwaves, kettles, etc for personal use in their rooms. Please note that there are some appliances that are not permitted. Please speak to Front Desk management for approval of amy electrical appliances you wish to use in your room. All appliances must be UL and CSA approved.
Laptop or Home Computer
Shared computer workstations are available for use in the Study Lounge and on residence, but residents desiring a workstation in their room will need to bring or purchase their own laptop or home computer.
An Ethernet Cable
Although residents can access Idlewood Inn’s wireless network, there is no deliberate wireless access in residential rooms. To ensure a consistent internet connection, purchase an Ethernet cable (available at the Front Desk or nearby computer stores) for the jack in your room. Note that double rooms have a separate connection in each shared rooms for the individual.
Television, DVD, Gaming Consoles
There is a common television in Common Lounge for residents to share, but if you would like to watch your own television channels, you’ll need to return to your room where one is provided for you. Each room is already equipped with a cable connection and basic cable service to provide this option. Please note TV’s may not have connections for gaming systems. Adaptors may be needed at resident’s own cost.
Phone
Landlines are already installed in your rooms for free local calls. If you require a cell phone, you can purchase one through a variety of local providers (Rogers, Bell, Telus, Virgin, etc…). Consult each provider for fees and rates.
Decorations
Make your room feel like home! Add your personal touch with decorations like artwork, calendars, or photos – just remember that nails and screws are not permitted in the walls. Purchase stick-tack from the Front Desk or a variety of nearby stores. Rugs can also personalise and warm up a room, even though floors are carpeted.
Furniture
Idlewood Inn provides standard furniture, including a desk, chairs, armoire, standing and desk lamps, and beds. You may supplement these items with your own furniture, however all standard furniture and equipment must remain in your room. We recommend that you wait until you arrive before considering supplemental furniture.
Medical Information
You will need your medical history records when you sign up with a local doctor. You should also bring any dental records you may have even though dentists will probably go through a complete new client service, whereby they start your file from new. remember to also bring a First Aid Kit & any personal medication.
